Sen. Bernie Sanders and Senate Democrats cited advances in artificial intelligence and automation Thursday as they argued for a new bill that would mandate a 32-hour federal workweek. "The sad reality is Americans now work more hours than the people of any other wealthy nation," the Vermont independent later said. The bill introduced by the committee chair Sanders and Sen. Laphonza Butler, D-Calif., would gradually reduce the standard workweek from 40 hours to 32 hours over four years. Sanders and Democrats at Thursday's hearing said that reducing the workweek would allow people to spend more time with family and on hobbies. Rust is seeking to run against U.S. Rep. Jim Banks for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Mike Braun. The county’s Republican Party chair said in a July meeting with Rust that she would not certify him, according to the lawsuit. Rust filed a lawsuit in September against Secretary of State Diego Morales, the Indiana Election Commission and Jackson County Republican Party Chair Amanda Lowery challenging the law. Rust officially filed with the office Feb. 5 to run as a Republican, according to state records. Should he prevail in his quest to get on the primary ballot, Rust faces an uphill challenge for the nomination.

The jury ruled last week that the egg producers used various means to limit the domestic supply of eggs to increase the price of products during the 2000s. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Illinois jury ruled this week that several major egg producers conspired to limit the U.S.'s supply of eggs in order to raise prices in a lawsuit first filed 12 years ago. The suppliers include the family company of an Indiana egg farmer running for the U.S. Senate in the state. Attorneys for the four egg suppliers named in the lawsuit did not immediately return phone messages on Wednesday. Other food manufacturers joining as plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the egg producers are General Mills, Inc. and Nestle USA, Inc. The jury found the egg suppliers who participated in the conspiracy were Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., United Egg Producers, Inc., United States Egg Marketers, Inc. and Rose Acre Farms, Inc., a southern Indiana-based company previously chaired by John Rust.

"A fiscal commission is direly needed," Republican Senator Mike Braun, a Budget Committee member, said in an interview.
